Pregnancy Photography: Capturing Cherished Memories
Falling pregnant and carrying a little life inside you from inception to birth is truly a wonder that can barely be expressed in words. You can try to explain the magic, the mystery, the strain and the challenge—the wild overwhelming and contrasting mix of intense ecstasy and acute anxiety—but words simply cannot convey it.
They don’t come close.
Pregnancy photography aims to help capture something of this wonder.
Admittedly, an image can only capture a still moment in time. Yet there’s something about the glow in a pregnant woman’s smile and the sense of enchantment that alights her face that can be captured in a photograph—something that communicates more than words can say. More importantly, pregnancy photography can help the mum-to-be remember the wonder of her pregnancy when it’s over, to recall the bliss, and to cherish the journey she’s taken to bring a new life into the world.
Here are a few images that say more than words could ever convey…
Pregnancy Photography and Inspirational Thoughts
Along with what pregnancy photography can offer, hearing the stories of others helps to get a sense of the wonder of it all. Here are a few quotes that capture little snippets of the joys of pregnancy.
Elizabeth Stone said it so beautifully: “Making a decision to have a child–it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
“To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited,” Anne Christian Buchanan explained. “Soul and spirit are stretched—along with body—making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.”
Judy Ford peeled back the curtain and gave us a peek at the mystery of it: “Pregnancy is a process that invites you to surrender to the unseen force behind all life.”
“Giving birth and being born brings us into the essence of creation,” pondered Harriette Hartigan, “where the human spirit is courageous and bold and the body, a miracle of wisdom.”
Pamela S. Nadav echoed these thoughts in this pithy gem: “There is such a special sweetness in being able to participate in creation.”
“If I had my life to live over, instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy,” reflected Erma Bombeck, offering counsel to those who may be in the same place, “I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.”
