Private Mentoring & Group Workshops
New to newborn photography, eager to learn the ropes? Why reinvent the wheel when you can learn from the mistakes and successes of another? Or perhaps you are an old pro looking for enrichment, seeking a fresh perspective on your craft? My own journey as a photographer was deepened through newborn photography mentoring, and it’s an absolute thrill to now share in the progress of others.
I have been teaching other photographers since 2013 in either a 1:1 or workshop setting. I am “hands on” and take great joy in seeing you get the most out of your day with me: all your questions answered, and armed with a new confidence and excitement for your journey ahead!

“Our Lorna Kirkby Photography newborn workshop was my first workshop and I am now glad it was. My confidence has increased tenfold after having seen her at work. Her calm, open and honest, ask-all-the-questions-you-need approach really allowed me to learn all I could. I learnt importantly about “the head tilt”, perfect baby exposure, baby posing/wrapping and most importantly, some much-needed post processing advice. Her story too is inspiring and it’s nice to hear that you don’t have to start with the best camera and all the best props to achieve the best photos. So thank you, Lorna. I cannot wait to put my new skills to use.”

Private Mentoring: One-on-One
I offer 1:1 private newborn photography mentoring sessions and host the day in my studio in Altona North, Melbourne. We cover everything from the nitty-gritty of equipment, set-up, lighting and camera angles, to the art of posing, soothing, safety and the use of props, to the challenge of post production and business. There’s plenty of space carved out through the day to work through your questions. I share my resources with you and remain available to you once the day comes to a close for any follow-up questions. You can also interact on my Facebook group page I host for the photographers who have previously mentored with me. My objective for newborn photography mentoring is to tailor-make the day to fit with where you’re at and where you want to go as a newborn photographer. I want you to succeed, to leave the day inspired, confident and ready.
Requirements: A DSLR camera and 50mm lens or your choice of lens. You should have a sound knowledge of using your camera in manual mode and using aperture, ISO and shutter speed. A fair knowledge of Photoshop is necessary to understand post production.
The day begins at 9:30am and finishes at 4:30pm. Lunch and refreshments are included. While our experience ends there, our relationship doesn’t, and you’re free to call on me for guidance into the future.
Normal Cost:
$1,800
NOW ONLY
$1,600
For a limited time only, the private mentoring cost has been reduced. This is your chance to get one-on-one mentoring and take your journey further!

“I just completed mentoring with Lorna Kirkby Photography. Going into it I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to continue with newborn photography as while it’s a great job it is very challenging and I had no idea. With that in mind, I actually went in thinking that perhaps I wasn’t doing it so badly, so why not learn as much as I could. After all, knowledge is power. Well wow! I had countless “AHH HAA” moments, moments where I thought that’s how it’s done! I’ve come out of it more confident and ready to take on the next chapter of my career in newborn photography. And to think I was ready to give it up. Now I’m refreshed and armed with many new techniques. I wouldn’t have known any of it if I didn’t do the course. You can research all you like but having that hands-on experience is just priceless. Thank you, Lorna. You’re worth your weight in gold.”

“I attended a mentoring day with Lorna Kirkby. I had been admiring Lorna’s newborn photography for quite some time and thought it best that I approach Lorna to see if she would be willing to spend some time teaching me some of her amazing skills! The mentoring day was a great help and through Lorna’s teaching, I was reassured that a lot of what I was already doing was correct. Lorna also taught me new and better ways to do certain things as well. My newborn photography has jumped ahead in leaps and bounds since the mentoring with Lorna, and I am busier than ever and loving it! Thank you, Lorna!”
