Newborn Photo Props: The Story Counts
Well-chosen photo props can beautifully enhance photographs. However, using props for the sake of using props can backfire. As with most things in life, when it comes to newborn photo props, discretion is important. A little goes a long way. Less is more. And the story counts. Let me explain.
The best photo props are those that have meaning to the client. I’m speaking of those props that capture a couple’s journey, a parent’s hopes, a child’s dreams, a client’s aspirations. Yes, and even a client’s footie team.
And sometimes, you get lucky. The featured image above of Leo and his orangutan is a great example.
Little Leo was just 12 days old when I met him, but like every child, he came with a story. Part of his story was instilled in the most delightful little orangutan. You see, Leo’s parents got engaged at the zoo, and on that magical day, they bought the little fella. When Leo’s parents asked me if they could bring him along, I answered, “Of course,” but little did I know just how wonderfully it would work out. I guess I got a little lucky, and it reminded me of the importance of each story. And more to the point, how well-chosen newborn photo props can enhance not only an image but an entire photo session too.
Here’s a second photo from Leo’s session.
