2014 Highlights: Perfecting My Craft
As 2014 draws to a close, I realise again how blessed I am to do what I do. After finding my thing in 2012, and enjoying my focus in 2013, 2014 has been about perfecting my craft. And more than that, working with these little treasures continues to enrich my life in so many ways.
Life is full of delightful surprises and for those with eyes to see, our days are often sprinkled with moments that remind us of the beauty and wonder of being alive. Yes, trials come. Yes, difficulties surface. Yes, we all face challenges that seem overwhelming. Yet in moments where pure wonder invades our lives we are awakened afresh to the sheer delights that life has to offer, reminded that innocence and goodness and hope are real. One of the many blessings of being a photographer is that I get to experience these injections of ‘pure wonder’ in the little faces and precious lives that are carried into my studio by proud, doting parents.
A newborn baby is a gift from above—reminding us of the preciousness of life. The innocence of a newborn child lifts the heaviness from the soul and causes the sun to shine on a dark and gloomy day. As Eda J. Leshan so aptly said, “A new baby is like the beginning of all things—wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.” And then I pinch myself; it is my absolute thrill to capture these little treasures in photographic images that can be cherished for a lifetime.
While each beautiful little treasure is a bundle of potential—who knows what each little one will achieve over the course of their lives—in these first-day moments, it’s really about one thing: the gift of new life. Uncomplicated yet profound. Serene and majestic. Enjoy these highlights from 2014…
Perfecting My Craft ~ And Serving My Clients
Some very wise person once said, “If you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life.” Or something like that. (The quote is actually attributed to various individuals, from Confucius—who was nothing like his name suggests—to Marc Anthony, the American musician). While doing what you love often involves lots of real work, the point is that it hardly feels like work given the degree of satisfaction you derive from what you do. And for me, working with precious little newborns and creating everlasting memories for their delighted parents is where my sweet spot lies.
I really love what I do. And it brings me real joy to present to parents images that capture their little treasures.
It would be a pleasure to serve you!
